What's Happening
The 2014-2015 season was another record breaker, and this 2015-2016 season is even bigger. Here's the lowdown:
The recent CD/Digital Album releases are gaining traction and I will be out there promoting and entertaining at events and festivals/fairs around Florida/PA and elsewhere as the year progresses and I take the show on the road.
On the local scene, I am performing five establishments on a weekly basis- (hope to see you at one or all!) :
"Sunday Funday", as usual, at the Blue Parrot for our sixth season after the four years at Woody's - this gig is an institution that began in 2006 at another establishment, and has a super-friendly, fun collection of locals and snowbirds, many who have all become great friends, and, at the least, "happy to see each other every week acquaintences".
Mondays are at the Boardwalk (Seafood and Pasta Restaurant/Lounge at the Isla del Sol plaza (at the intersection of Bayway and Tierra Verde).....
Tuesdays I will be at American Legion 273, Madeira beach, either 2-6pm on the patio or 6-8pm inside.
Wednesdays you can find me at JD's Lounge patio (Gulf Blvd, Indian Rocks Beach) from 1-5pm.
This has been a super venue for me and for my northern beaches folks- and has become another Funday.
Thursdays (6-9pm) at the new Ocean Breeze Grill (Gulf Blvd at 146th Ave, Madeira Beach) doing an acoustic performance .
On Fridays and Saturdays, I be rotating gigs at venues such as American Legion 273 (Madeira Beach), VFW 2473 (Clearwater), Dunedin VFW, American Legion 158 (Treasure Island), VFW 10094 (Largo - Indian Rocks post), , and some super friendly parks and condos, including Sea Horse, Mainlands, Water's Edge, Bay Pines, Golden Gate, Lakeview of Largo South, and more.
ENTERTAINING PEOPLE That's what Tom Davis does. For over 26 years now.
-
I am primarily guitar/vocals based pop/rock/country music act - with a few songs from the 50's, a bunch from the 60's-90's, and a few more current. My focus is on making people dance (or at least tap on their table if a "non-dancer"). My set is filled with lots of great danceable songs including the standard fare (Old Time Rock and Roll, Mustang Sally, Brown Eyed Girl, etc.) I also add a vocal selection of some great standards (Motown, Sweet Caroline, The Way You Look Tonight, Chicago Chicago, Ain't Love a Kick In The Head, etc) that I like to deliver in an interactive manner.
I have a good bit of classic and modern country available when needed (Boot Scoot Boogie, Friends In Low Places, I Love This Bar, etc). Beach music? Yep (Jimmy Buffett, Kenny Chesney, Beach Boys, etc.) I can also do an easy listening set if appropriate- whether just the guitar and me or the full setup.
I can feature an all oldies/standards act or an all country act if those themes are needed for your event. My country act contains a touch of classic/traditional (Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, George Jones, Glenn Campbell, Conway Twitty) and a good amount of later classic and modern country (Alan Jackson, Garth Brooks, Tim McGraw, Kenny Chesney, Billy Currington, Toby Keith, Luke Bryan, Jason Aldean, etc). I also perform some songs from my country CD's, some of which have become crowd favorites.
It was in the last couple years I've added some new touches -- such as the vocals based great danceable motown and a few popular "brat pack" style songs (Sinatra, Bobby Darin, Dean Martin)- with more emphasis on a vocal show, which puts forth
a more interactive, concert-type atmosphere, such as my performance in this video -A Woman Like You- a Johnny Reid song I added for the Canadian snowbirds (and has also caught on in a big with with my fellow Americans.)

All in all, my theme is sort of "happy songs in a cheerful atmosphere" that you can dance to, sing along with, associate a certain time or your life with, and with the country I've added, line dance to. I am an excellent vocalist, and at times utilize a light touch of a vocal "harmonizer" to add depth and style to some songs. Please check out my youtube videos to see and hear what I do.
As for volume, I keep it at an appropriate and acceptable level. As my friend "DannyB" says: "I've never know anyone to leave because its not loud enough" - but we all have left venues because the music was too loud. Your customers and guests will be able to talk to one another.

I love my job and am very thankful that so many people come every week to one or more of my gigs.

To still be peaking after 26 years of doing this is a bit extraordinary. I take my job very seriously and always strive to improve on the product I offer. Check some videos out from SUNDAY FUNDAY on Facebook. I understand that the music itself is not all that matters - My act is VERY family-friendly and child-friendly- I enjoy banter with the kids, too. Many times I've heard a parent say "we brought (our child) here because they just want to hear Tom Davis". There is no vulgar language or dirty song parodies. A keen and clean SEINFELDIAN sense of humor is included with the performance at NO EXTRA COST. I've never used used drugs or smoked anything- and very rarely drink alcohol. I consider myself a professional and conduct myself accordingly. TECHNOLOGY - I use very superior backing tracks that I either create from scratch (using midi or recording) or license (as individual instrumental tracks) from an un-named studio (I consider my sources to be somewhat of a trade secret- and expensive!). I further edit/customize the studio tracks to provide the best mixes for a live sound application. I don't use karaoke tracks, which are produced in the same fashion to mimic the originals (typical recorded music like this is not the best source for a live production). They often include with fade-outs and instrument mixes that don't fit the EQ of a live sound system, and are geared more toward hi-fi systems and ipods. I can confidantly say that I'm one of the best in the business at creating very tasteful tracks that do not overwhelm the integrity of the live performance (By the way, I also can do an acoustic gig with just me, a guitar, and harmonicas.)
I've been creating my own tracks since the 1988 introduction of the Alesis HR-16 drum machine, the Alesis MMT-8 multi track midi sequencer , and the Roland D10 keyboard / D110 module.
I take pride in performing some songs that are not often performed by most acts, such as Jay and the Americans' CARA MIA , The Left Banke's WALK AWAY RENEE, CCR's HAVE YOU EVER SEEN THE RAIN, The Kingston Trio's SCOTCH AND SODA, The Turtles' SHE'D RATHER BE WITH ME, among others.

WHAT GEAR DOES TOM DAVIS USE?
"The Finest Sound Available Anywhere" is obtained not only through fine vocals, guitars, and harmonicas, but also through the use of the finest in sound reinforcement and accessories together with the knowledge/experience to put it all together. I use Martin and Takamine acoustic guitars along with some specialized hybrid guitars. For backing tracks I use Roland sounds. For sound reinforcement I use Bose and QSC.
THE EARLY DAYS
Saint Patrick's Day 1988, as a 5th year Senior at East Stroudsburg University of PA, I, along with my Yamaha RX-17 drum machine, and Ovation Celebrity acoustic electric guitar, played my first paid live performance at the famous (and formerly) Dansbury Depot (Trackside Pub now sits on that site). Over the next 18 years, I honed my craft in hundreds of establishments in the northeastern PA region, with a good number of appearances in the surrounding states of NJ, NY, VA, DE, and MD. I've been the entertainment at many hundreds of private and company affairs, including weddings, graduation parties, Christmas parties, neighborhood events, block parties, and the list goes on. I've taken the "stage" an estimated 5,000 times, give or take hundred.
WHERE IS TOM DAVIS NOW?
Since April of 2006, I've been based in Saint Pete Beach, FL in the heart of the Gulf Beaches/Tampa Bay region. For over four years I was the house band, five nights per week, at Woody's Waterfront. Since 2010 I've been a long term staple at The Blue Parrot, The Pub Waterfront Restaurant, Bamboo Beer Garden, On The Rocks, American Legion 273, and a handful of other venues. During these past 8 1/2 years (about 1600 performances), I have acquired a consistent following of quality folks (snowbirds and local) - many who even seek me out for their night(s) out. I provide these folks and customers with great music, some laughs, some dancing, and a feeling of community. Many of my following have been with me for all five years and have formed friendships with each other. Please refer to the gig schedule at the top of this page to find my immediate whereabouts. If you are a venue manager of owner, I offer your establishment instant credibility in terms of the entertainment you provide.
